Antonio Discovolo
In 1890 he began his studies at the Academy of Florence, a disciple of factors, and completed them in Lucca. He moved to Rome in 1898, was part of the group “In Arte Libertas” founded by Nino Costa.
Attracted by the pointillist technique, began in the Gulf of La Spezia a number of marine and lunar landscapes sent on display in Rome: “Full Moon in the Gulf of Spezia,” purchased by the King; “The sleeping”, purchased by Countess Opium; “morning in Tellaro “;” viaticum in the mountains “, etc..
He participated in international exhibitions of Leningrad and Saint Louis, and exhibited in national Rome and Venice. Works: “The old”, owned by former minister of France Hanotaux; “Silence,” Dr. Birgmann of Santa Fe; “Marosi” and “The Gardener” in the Municipal Gallery of Arezzo, “The Vigil”, in the collection Sem Benelli; “The nymph in love,” in the Gallery Mussolini; “Among the olive trees” in the Gallery of Modern Art in Rome; “Morning” and “Self-Portrait” in that of Milan. He abandoned his pointillist technique to search for the plastic dough, in a wide vision and uniquely personal. Began a series of nocturnal paintings and later went on to canvases painted in bright sunlight, which illustrate the rural life of Liguria.
It is dedicated to portraits, and among these we find: “Portrait of my mother,” property Sem Benelli, that of “Antonio Beltramelli”, “the professor Vigeveni” of “woman Angela Furari Savatelli” of “Ettore Cozzani” and of the “lady Argia Sarti,” exposed to these two spring of Florence in 1922. In 1926 he exhibited in Milan and Rome fifty paintings inspired by Assisi and the Franciscan tradition, works that were collected in an illustrated edition published by the publishing house Eroica in Milan.
